Dear INFORMS Transactions
on Education readers,
It is with great sadness that
we notify you of the death of Michael H. Rothkopf, a longtime member
of the ITE Editorial Board. Mike was an enthusiastic supporter of ITE since its inception; he was a strong advocate of education
oriented toward the practice of O.R. Mike was also a kind and
generous friend and colleague who was always happy to discuss and give
advice on professional issues and questions. He provided tremendous
service to INFORMS and operations research in many other ways, ultimately
serving as President of INFORMS in 2004.
INFORM-ED (INFORMS Education
Forum) is organizing a special session in memoriam of Mike for the annual
INFORMS Conference in Washington, D.C. this October. Please join
us for this opportunity to share our fond memories of Mike, and keep
Mike's wife Laura and their family in your thoughts as they cope with
their loss.
For further information about
Mike's life and career (as well as instructions on how to make contributions
to the Michael Rothkopf Graduate Fellowship), please see the INFORMS
On-Line article at http://www.informs.org/article.php?id=1341.
Sincerely,
Jim
